ayyee this is MEGA IMPORTANT because its a visual sign that the brothers were treated differently (seth has a ratty mattress on the floor, richie has a real bed with items and decorations and belongings)

and seth said that his dad was much more violent with him. 

and yo like seth has never never held it against his little brother or expressed any sign of bitterness about it, whenever he’s talked about it he is either defensive of richie or thankful to him for taking care of him. seth is aware of/understands that it isn’t his brothers fault that he was treated differently and loves him deeply despite growing up being given nothing compared to him to the point where even the places they slept indicated their father’s favoritism/hated of seth.
